Comments on chapters 10–13.

Here’s the second installment of letters we’ve received for Being Special. Let’s get to it.

Dear Being Special,

The interview finally arrived, after so much buildup, and it was a GIGANTIC let down.

Sorry.

I wanted to like it but it just seemed like such a waste. Okay. So, you hype Todd’s interview up by referencing his graduate degree. That’s all well and good. But then…nothing. Zilch. Why all the threatrics for some loser? I can see why he reads comic books. What university was that again? Remind me never to send my kids there.

I know the above sounded harsh but I just don’t get it. However, I laughed when Meylin said, “So, that’s why they gave him a Master’s degree because he can’t talk?”

That, right there, is why she’s my favorite character. Meylin’s not afraid to tell the truth.

Please get rid of Todd and focus on someone else.

Thanks,

Evan Richards

Ouch. Tell us how you REALLY feel, Evan. The question is, how’d you like the revelation in Chapter 13? That change your mind any? If not, well, you might have the disposition of a T800.

Dear Being Special,

I don’t understand this Todd guy. He’s supposed to have a graduate degree, right? He just doesn’t come across as competent and I understand he’s probably on the spectrum.

Further, I’m confused as to why Autumn is so fixated on this guy.

I mean, considering all the people she has the opportunity to interview, why does she keep going back to Todd?

The fact is, he doesn’t deserve a second interview.

Best,

Rachel Miller

Boston, Massachusetts

Wow. Is it just me or is Todd not a very popular guy around here? Well, keep reading and you’ll find out Autumn’s motivation for keeping him around.

Or is it someone else that wants Todd around? Hmmm…

Dear Being Special,

Thank you so much for bringing back Emily Flum! It was awesome seeing her again! After the IEProblem, I never thought I’d see her anytime soon. I do find it strange that Autumn would go to Emily for help, considering that Emily is Jessica’s best friend and everything.

Emily was my favorite character in the previous novel so I’m BEYOND excited that her story is going to continue.

Maybe a spinoff novel, perhaps?

Also, I’m curious if Jessica is going to show up. I can’t IMAGINE what she would think of Todd. The guy that received a graduate degree with his level of disabilities.

Remember her ideological crusade against Autumn for her accommodations?

Now that I think about it, I REALLY want to see Jessica square off with Todd.

Regards,

Samantha Greene

Newark, New Jersey

No plans for an Emily spinoff right now. But that Jessica and Todd confrontation is a great idea.

Mind if we steal it?

Well, that’s it for this month. As always, keep reading.

Who knows?

Maybe we’ll finally get the common sense to stop writing.
